Khanyisa is a independent Waldorf school providing supportive education for children and young people between the ages of 9 and 19. Khanyisa is for learners who fall below the level of mainstream education. The learners do not write matric. The Western Cape Education Department follows a policy of inclusive education and most of the special classes attached to the schools have been closed. Within a supportive environment, learners are capable of learning and making progress. At present there are between 80 and 90 learners in seven classes. We have seven full-time and a number of part-time teachers. The school is organised into two sections. Seniors - three classes and Juniors - three. The learners are maintained in their age groups and the education that they receive is designed to meet the growing consciousness of the child. The classes are kept to a size of 12 - 14.
